Previous Experience

Our Consulting and Training experience covers a multitude of services and is as varied as our clients' needs. Whether you want us to take the lead or to work side-by-side with your existing team, we always get the job done right. Notable examples include:

Environmental Auditing - Phase I (Houston, TX)

2008: ES&H handled all in-house environmental audits for an oil and gas production firm. We are conducting a visual assessment of 71 facilities, looking for any recognized environmental conditions (e.g. leaking storage tanks) and anything else that could lead to a problem (e.g. inadequate secondary containment or corroded flow lines).

Spill Management - HAZMAT (Vacherie, LA)

2007: A 4,500-gallon truck belonging to an oil and fuel transportation company had an accident, rolled over, and spilled diesel fuel on the highway. Multiple agencies arrived on the scene—State Police, Parish Emergency Planning Commission, Fire Department, and DOT. ES&H gathered all relevant information to form the Incident Action Plan, which helped to coordinate the activities of all the players.

Plan Writing for an Offshore Vessel Company (AK, CA)

2007: ES&H drafted an Alaska Contingency Plan and a California Contingency Plan for an offshore supply vessel company. We also maintained vessel records for this firm with the TGLO vessel database.

Spill Management Team - Spill of National Significance (Bayou Perot, east of Larose, LA)

2007: Our client, a Louisiana oil and gas production company, had been a Spill Management Team customer of ours for only a couple of months when one of its brand new wells was struck by a barge. The oil spewed out into a very environmentally sensitive area, and we developed a unique recovery method. Our Command Post in Houma was used throughout the duration. This spill involved a much higher posture from the regulatory community. ES&H stayed on as the Spill Management Team even after the project was federalized. This occurs only rarely and speaks to the level of respect the agencies have for us.

International Plan Writing (South Pacific)

2006: We also write plans for vessels built in other countries. A workover barge company had a vessel built and registered for an island off the coast of Australia, and we wrote its SOPEP (Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan).

Spill Management Support - Large-scale Pipeline Rupture (Little Lake, LA)

2005: An oil & gas pipeline company had a large-scale pipeline rupture resulting in the release of over 1,000 barrels into an inland bay and coastal marsh. We fulfilled multiple Spill Management Team positions in support of our client's team, and we served as the primary OSRO.

Offshore Well Blowout - Incident Command System (Eugene Island Block Offshore)

2004: Very little pollution resulted from this well blowout. However, the safety situation was tenuous, with a complete loss of the structure and dangerous conditions. Our teams helped to force personnel into an Incident Command System to integrate well control contractors, the responsible party, and the regulatory agencies.

PREP Compliance (Lafayette, LA)

2003-present: ES&H has managed thirteen onshore facilities for a Louisiana oil and gas production firm in compliance with the PREP requirements. We track, schedule, facilitate, certify, and file all PREP drills and exercises for each facility—a difficult task for many companies to handle on their own.

Spill Management - Gas Well Blowout (Morgan City, LA)

2003: Our client, a Louisiana oil and gas firm, experienced a gas well blowout that burned for several weeks. Our team was onsite quickly and worked jointly with the customer as one Spill Management Team.

Spill Management Support - Incident Action Plan (Little Lake, TX)

2002: A Houston-based pipeline company experienced a pipeline leak that spilled about 2,500 barrels of crude. It brought in our consultants to serve as a part of its Spill Management Team, and we handled all Incident Action Plan documentation.

Phase II & III Due Diligence Environmental Auditing (Marrero, LA)

2001: A chemical warehousing facility discovered pesticide contamination on its property. We performed testing and sampling, then developed a plan for full remediation and restoration of the property.

PREP Compliance, SMT Contract, Plan Writing (Lafayette, LA)

2001-present: A Lafayette-based oil and gas production firm, operating through 270 offshore and six onshore facilities, has engaged ES&H to serve as their registered Spill Management Team. We have written its OSRP plans and completely manage its PREP Compliance Program.

Plan Writing (Gulf Coast Region)

1998-present: An independent oil and natural gas exploration and development company has engaged ES&H to write and update all its required compliance manuals.
