Roland J. Guidry Joins the ES&H Team!

ES&H is delighted to introduce a new team member to the ES&H Family!  We proudly announce that Mr. Roland J. Guidry has joined our firm!  Roland’s position is ES&H Corporate Development Representative and Emergency Management Team Professional.

 

      Roland is well known through the industry as he has served as the Oil Spill Coordinator for the state of Louisiana since 1992.  In this position, he supervised the overall direction, operation, and administration of the Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator’s Office (LOSCO) in accordance with the Louisiana Oil Spill Prevention and Response Act of 1991, along with the rules, regulations, and guidelines disseminated by the office.  Roland served as liaison to government entities, industry, and the general public to provide coordinated response efforts in the event of a threatened or actual oil spill.  He functioned as the State On-Scene Coordinator and Lead State Natural Resource Trustee for every major spill in Louisiana since 1992.  Roland represented the State as a speaker in 15 states, the District of Columbia, and Canada. 

      Roland received a Meritorious Public Service Award from the Department of Homeland Security – United States Coast Guard in recognition of notable services that have assisted greatly in furthering the aims and functions of the Coast Guard.  In this award, he was thanked for his leadership and collaborative approach during spills which enabled the Coast Guard and other response agencies to work together effectively and achieve common goals in protecting the environment.  He was also thanked for his critical roles in coordinating the recovery of millions of gallons of oil in the aftermath of 15 hurricanes that struck the state of Louisiana.

 

   More recent recognitions Roland received upon his retirement as the Spill Coordinator for the state of Louisiana are:

  • Official Statement from Governor Bobby Jindal for 20 years of dedicated services to the State of Louisiana and the Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator’s Office
  • Department of Public Safety recognition for his many years of dedicated service
  • Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association recognition for his outstanding accomplishments as the Oil Spill Coordinator

   Prior to his appointment as Coordinator, he served as an elected member of the Greater Lafourche Port Commission for fifteen years, eight of those years as Vice President.

      As the Oil Spill Coordinator, Roland received a Public Service commendation from the United States Coast Guard for his participation in the Coast Guard negotiated rulemaking process and Certificate of Merit for his contributions during the Westchester Oil Spill in November 2000.  Roland has been designated by the Governor of Louisiana as the lead administrative trustee for assessing natural resources damages under the Oil Pollution Act of 1990.  Additionally, Roland served as the primary state representative on the Region VI Regional Response Team for oil spill related matters, and has also served on three different Area Committees designated under the Oil Pollution Act of 1990.  He has attended training workshops on Oiled Bird Rehabilitation, successfully completed Oil Spill Response Training with the United States Coast Guard Reserve Training Center in Yorktown, Virginia, an Inland Oil Spill Control Course at Texas A&M University, and the Qualified Individual Training Program OPA 90 from Massachusetts Maritime Academy at Buzzards Bay, MA.  Roland served on several state wide committees including the BTNEP, Clean Gulf Conference Committee and the Louisiana Emergency Response Commission.  Roland has been invited to serve on the HELIX Well Containment Group (HWCG) Advisory Committee.  He has been a staunch advocate for preserving our coastal wetland and is actively involved in the restoration and conservation of Louisiana’s barrier islands as a comprehensive oil spill prevention measure.

Roland is married to LouAnna Guidry and has 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

      We look forward to working with Roland as he brings a wealth of knowledge to our firm.  Roland will be assisting with our on-going customer relations and will be involved in a variety of ES&H functions.  He will also be an Emergency Management Team Professional assisting with events that ES&H manages.  We are anxious for all of you to work by his side as a team member of ES&H.
